Policy on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Technologies

For Authors

This policy aims to provide transparency and guidance to authors, readers, reviewers, and editors regarding the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies. The ISCR Publishing House will monitor this development and will adjust or refine this policy as necessary. Please note that this policy relates only to the writing process, not to the use of AI tools for analyzing and obtaining insights from data as part of the research process.

Basic Principles of Use

If authors use generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process, these technologies should be used only to improve the readability and language of the work, not to replace key authoring tasks such as:

  • Creating scientific, pedagogical, or medical conclusions
  • Formulating scientific findings
  • Providing recommendations on agricultural practices
  • Interpreting experimental data

The application of technology must be carried out under human supervision and control, and all work must be carefully reviewed and edited, as AI can generate results that sound good but may be inaccurate, incomplete, or biased. Authors bear ultimate responsibility for the content of the work.

Disclosure Requirements

Authors must disclose in their manuscript the use of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies, and a corresponding statement will appear in the published work. Declaring the use of these technologies supports transparency and trust between authors, readers, reviewers, editors, and co-authors and facilitates compliance with the terms of use of the relevant tool or technology.

This policy is intended for new content creation (i.e., new works or new content or sections added to a revised work). Generative AI and AI-assisted technologies should not be used on previously published material.

Authorship Limitations

Authors must not list generative AI and AI-assisted technologies as an author or co-author, nor should they cite AI as an author. Authorship involves responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans. Each (co-)author is responsible for ensuring that issues related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are properly investigated and resolved.

Authorship requires the ability to:

  • Approve the final version of the work
  • Agree to its submission
  • Ensure the originality of the work
  • Confirm the qualifications of the stated authors for authorship
  • Guarantee that the work does not violate third-party rights

Use of Generative AI in Images and Illustrations

The ISCR Publishing House does not permit the use of generative AI or AI-assisted tools to create or alter images in submitted manuscripts.

Ethical Requirements

Authors are also responsible for:

  • Ensuring the originality of the work
  • Confirming the qualifications of the stated authors
  • Guaranteeing that the work does not violate third-party rights
  • Familiarizing themselves with the ethical principles of publication of the ISCR Publishing House before submission

Note: For information on the use of generative AI in journal articles, please refer to the relevant generative AI policies for journals of the Publishing House of the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian Region of NAAS.

This policy may be reviewed and updated as AI technologies develop and experience in their use in scientific publishing accumulates.
