METHODS OF BREEDING AND IMPROVING THE WESTERN INTERBREED TYPE OF THE UKRAINIAN BLACK-SPOTTED DAIRY BREED

The black-spotted breed of the Western region of Ukraine was formed in the process of long-term selection while improving its exterior and productive qualities by crossing with improving breeds of the world gene pool. According to a number of authors, the Lviv group of the black and white breed was valuable in terms of breeding (Bashchenko M. I., Ruban S. Yu., 2011, Gladiy M. V., 2014, Shcherbaty Z. Ye., Bodnar P. V., Kropyvka O. G., 2017, etc.). In the Western regions, its formation was significantly influenced by the Dutch, East Frisian black-spotted cattle. In the 30s of the 19th century, breeding bulls of the East Frisian breed were first imported to the region, and in the late 50s the first groups of Dutch black-spotted cattle. During the period 1905-1912, 850 bulls were imported from Holland to Lviv region, which were widely used in absorption crossing with local cattle. An important role in the selection was played by individual purebred herds of Dutch cattle (Hetia A. A., 2020, Khmelnychyy L. M., Vechorka V. V., 2018). Since 1947, bulls of the Estonian black and white breed have been intensively used, and since 1958 there was another stage of import and use of Dutch black-spotted cattle in Lviv region.
