STUDY AND EVALUATION OF BREEDING NUMBERS OF PERENNIAL RYEGRASS (LOLIUM PERENNE L.) IN THE CONTROL NURSERY

Abstract

The material for research in the control nursery was 21 samples of perennial ryegrass of different ecological and geographical origin and created by different breeding methods. Samples were evaluated according to the main economic and biological characteristics: plant height, bush shape, foliage, regrowth rate after mowing, number of stems, yield of green mass, seeds. On average, during the two years of accounting in the control nursery with the haystack method of use, 4 samples of perennial ryegrass (77–81 cm) were selected according to the height of the plants; by foliage 8 samples (43.1–44.4%), by green mass yield 6 samples (27.6–31.5 t/ha), by dry matter yield 6 samples (6.9–8.2 t/ha). In the pasture method of use, 6 samples were the best in terms of plant height (23.2–24.2 cm), 7 samples in leafiness (73.1–75.2 %), and 9 samples in green mass yield (28.4–31, 5 t/ha), according to the dry matter yield of 7 samples (7.2–7.9 t/ha). The highest rate of seed yield was provided by 9 samples (0.43–0.51 t/ha). 10 samples were distinguished by the number of generative stems (712–850 pcs/m²), 4 samples by the number of seeds in a spike (25–26 pcs), and 8 samples by the weight of 1000 seeds (2.43–2.49 g). Samples with the maximum and stable manifestation of signs will be offered as parental components when creating varieties of different ripening periods and directions of use
