Increasing the production of rice as well as any other crop, improving the quality of cultivated products primarily depends on the use of quality seeds and introduction of good practices for growing crops.
The aim was to study the state of soil contamination with weeds and seeds of red-grained rice forms depending on the category of varietal purity and timing of accounting.
The research was carried out in the rice crop rotation of the research field of the Rice Institute of NAAS of Ukraine (Antonivka village, Skadovsk district, Kherson region). The area of the research site – 66 m2, accounting area – 50 m2. The experiments were repeated 4 times. Accounting and analysis were performed in accordance with the requirements of DSTU 30483-97 and the methods of A. N. Kiselyov.
The lowest pollution of rice crops was by the use of seeds in the breeding nursery, this figure was in the variety Vicont 0.13 %, Premium – 0.19 % and Ukraina-96 – 0.38%.
Based on the results of field research, it was found that the largest reserves of viable segetal seeds are contained in a 0–10 cm layer of soil. The total number of seeds of different weed species is 12987.8 pieces/m2, rooster millet (Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) P.Beauv.) – 1381.0 pieces/m2.
Improving the weed control system of rice crops, taking into account the specific species composition of weeds, which, like the culture belong to the botanical family Tonkonogi, limits the ability of weeds to form mass and allows high rice yields.
To prevent the spread of red-grained forms of rice and reliable seedlings control as well as rooster millet seedlings and other problematic species, it is advisable to conduct seed work on farms: timely varietal renewal and replacement, adhere to seed crop rotations, perform varietal and species weeding, carry out provocative waterings with the subsequent destruction of seedlings of red-grain forms and weeds by tillage. During varietal weeding it is necessary to remove all impurities and diseased plants. Before harvesting, all seed crops should be tested to establish varietal purity. Elite seeds should not have red-grained forms.
