The article investigates the influence of cruciferous green manure crops and their cultivation periods on the bioproductivity of green biomass, the microbiological activity of gray forestal soils, and the productivity of field crops under conditions of unstable moisture supply. It was established that the spring sowing period provided more favorable hydrothermal conditions and higher green manure productivity compared to summer sowing. Among the studied crops, oilseed radish demonstrated the highest green manure productivity, producing 3.66 t/ha of dry matter under spring sowing and 1.92 t/ha under summer sowing, exceeding other crops in terms of organic biomass accumulation and activation of organic matter transformation processes. White mustard exhibited the highest biofumigation potential and the greatest effect on the intensity of basal microbial respiration and the abundance of nitrogen-fixing bacteria. Brassica campestris var. oleifera provided a less intensive but more stabilizing effect on the microbiological condition of the soil. The systematic application of green manure crops contributed to an increase in microbial biomass by 17.2–48.1 %, enhanced the activity of ecological-functional groups of microorganisms, and increased the yield of winter wheat by up to
10.88 % and grain maize by up to 13.78 % compared to the control. The obtained results confirm the differentiated effectiveness of cruciferous green manure crops depending on their biological characteristics and growing conditions.
