Soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) represents one of the foremost strategic crops in global agriculture, owing to its high protein and oil content, broad applicability, and the increasing demand for plant-based proteins. Beyond its food and feed uses, soybean is extensively employed in the production of biofuels and bioproducts, further reinforcing its significance in the global economy. Based on a comprehensive review of scientific literature and statistical data, the history of soybean dissemination has been synthesized, and the current status and future prospects of its production analyzed. Soybean is cultivated in over 75 countries worldwide, with global production exceeding 390 million tons across approximately 137 million hectares. The leading producers – Brazil, the United States, and Argentina – account for roughly 80% of total output, while China remains the primary producer in Asia. In the agricultural sector of Ukraine, soybean has emerged as one of the most profitable crops over the past two decades: sown areas have expanded to over 2.6 million hectares, with production reaching 6–7 million tons, positioning Ukraine among the top ten global producers. Nevertheless, yield levels exhibit considerable regional variability, influenced by edaphic and climatic conditions as well as weather fluctuations. This underscores the need to enhance adaptive cultivation technologies, implement modern high-yielding varieties, and optimize nutrient management and crop protection strategies to fully realize the crop’s potential. In the context of climate change, improving the productivity and stability of soybean cultivation represents a critical pathway for advancing Ukraine’s agricultural development.
